Speech Time Calculator is a free online tool that converts words into estimated speaking time and helps you calculate how many words fit within a target duration. It is designed for speeches, presentations, podcast scripts, video narration, and voiceovers.
The calculator offers three input modes. Paste Text lets you add a complete script and view its word count, character count, and estimated duration. Words to Time provides an estimate from a word count without requiring the original text. Minutes to Words helps you set a writing target based on the speaking time available.
Choose from three speaking speeds: Slow at 110 words per minute, Average at 150 words per minute, or Fast at 180 words per minute. You can also enter a custom rate to match your delivery style. Results update automatically when you change your input or selected pace, making it easy to compare different versions of a script.
For example, a 750-word speech takes approximately five minutes at 150 words per minute. A ten-minute presentation at the same pace corresponds to around 1,500 words. Common word count and duration presets help you get started quickly, while a reference table lets you compare estimated times across the preset speeds.
Students can use the tool to prepare timed classroom presentations. Professionals can check whether a pitch or project update fits their allocated slot. Content creators can estimate narration length before recording, and speakers can use a target word count to guide their first draft.
Speech Time Calculator is free to use and requires no signup. Calculations happen locally in your browser, and your pasted text is not sent elsewhere by the page for processing. Light and dark themes let you choose your preferred appearance.
Speaking time is an estimate based on your selected pace. Pauses, emphasis, slide changes, and audience reactions can extend actual delivery. Use the calculator to plan your script, then rehearse aloud to refine the timing.
