Sumi is built for readers who want translated manga, manhwa, and webtoons without covering the original artwork with pasted boxes. It detects the lettering, removes it, restores the art underneath, translates the text, and re-typesets the selected language inside the original speech bubbles. Vertical Japanese remains vertical.
Ways to use Sumi
Use the online translator in a browser and download the finished page, install the Chrome or Safari extension to translate the chapter already open in the browser, or use the Sumi app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple silicon Macs. The app includes whole-chapter import, a dedicated reader, and on-device offline translation.
Sumi translates Japanese, Korean, and Chinese source text into 16 languages. It does not host, index, or crawl manga; it only processes pages the reader already has open or chooses to import.

Anyone can try one page without an account. Creating an account adds 5 pages, and a daily check-in adds 5 more pages. Sumi Pro is $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year, with no trial, and covers 1,500 pages every 30 days. The iPhone app also offers a one-time offline purchase for unlimited on-device translation.
